Iran and Oman discuss managing Strait of Hormuz shipping

Iran and Oman held talks in Tehran on Tuesday in talks in Tehran, focusing on a framework to manage ship traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, according to a joint statement. The proposed framework includes a "joint temporary navigational corridor" and coordinated mine-clearing efforts in the waterway, with both nations agreeing to continue technical negotiations toward a permanent shipping corridor and future administration of the strait. About a fifth of the world's traded oil passed through the strait before US and Israeli attacks on Iran on Feb 28, and it remains unclear whether Washington will accept the emerging deal, as President Donald Trump recently threatened to bomb Oman if it interferes with US efforts to reopen the strait.
