Oman and Iran discuss temporary navigation corridor in Strait of Hormuz

Oman and Iran are discussing a temporary navigation corridor through the Strait of Hormuz, which remains closed by Tehran amid the ongoing Middle East war. The talks aim to regulate shipping in the strategic waterway. Omani Foreign Minister Badr Al-Busaidi said he hopes to announce the corridor and practical measures soon, adding that any permanent solution must be based on the June agreement between Tehran and Washington, which has since collapsed. Discussions in Tehran covered a phased framework including a joint temporary corridor and a demining project, with further negotiations planned for a permanent route and management mechanism. The announcement follows US President Donald Trump's claim that all mines have been removed from international waters in the strait, which Iran denies. The war began in late February with Israeli-American strikes on Iran, which responded by closing the strait through which a fifth of global hydrocarbons previously transited.
