Iran and Oman are nearing an agreement on a temporary joint shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz, including a joint demining mission in the strategic waterway, a key oil export corridor. Oman's foreign minister expressed hope for a corridor announcement, following talks with Iran's top diplomat in Tehran. The proposed framework includes a joint project to clear mines from the strait, following a memorandum signed by Washington and Tehran on June 17. The United States previously said the US Navy removed all mines from international waters, according to a statement.
