Oil tanker hit by unknown projectile off Oman in Strait of Hormuz

An oil tanker was hit by an "unknown projectile" in the Strait of Hormuz, causing engine room damage and immobilizing the vessel, according to the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO). The crew is reported safe. The attack occurred 9 nautical miles northeast of Oman's As Sisha city. The tanker's flag, country of ownership, and direction were not disclosed. The UKMTO, part of the UK Ministry of Defence, reported the incident late Monday. Ships crossing the Strait of Hormuz have frequently been targeted since the US-Israeli attack on Iran on February 28. The US threatened Iran with "economic strangulation" Monday, with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent presenting new sanctions against its commercial partners.
