US sanctions target five Iranian sectors in new economic campaign

The United States has launched a sweeping economic campaign against Iran and entities aiding its sanctions evasion, announced by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and the Treasury Department. The sanctions target five Iranian economic sectors: digital assets, technology, gold, aviation, and shipping. Nearly 60 companies, individuals, and vessels were also blacklisted for ties to nuclear and missile procurement, cyber operations, and oil revenue. Bessent stated the goal is to cut off all revenue streams funding Iran's regime and Revolutionary Guard, leaving Tehran with a choice between global isolation or returning to normal economic relations.
