China Defies US Sanctions on Iran, Vows to Protect Its Interests

China has vowed to "firmly defend" its interests after the U.S. announced new sanctions targeting Iran's economic partners, escalating tensions in the Middle East. The U.S. Treasury unveiled secondary sanctions Monday against entities in the UAE, China, Singapore, and Europe, plus 60 individuals and firms accused of aiding Iran's oil revenue, weapons procurement, and cyber warfare. Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Lin Jian criticized the "maximum pressure" approach, saying it destabilizes global economic order, while noting China-Iran cooperation "cannot be hindered." China was the destination for over 80% of Iranian oil exports before the conflict.
