Zelensky warns US will keep easing Russia sanctions
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned that the US will likely continue easing sanctions against Russia, calling the recent suspension of a sanctions law "only the first step." He stated this during a press briefing, suggesting further US decisions to weaken restrictions are expected. Zelensky argued that such moves will not stop the war but will only boost Russian dictator Vladimir Putin's confidence. He criticized President Donald Trump's decision to suspend the Graham law, which had bipartisan Congressional support and would have imposed tariffs up to 100% on countries buying Russian energy. Zelensky expressed hope Trump will still push Putin to end attacks on Ukrainians and the war overall. He stressed that limiting Ukraine's right to respond to Russian strikes and easing sanctions pressure will not lead to a ceasefire. Senator Richard Blumenthal also criticized Trump's decision, saying it contradicts the stance of most Americans, Congress, and European allies.
