U.S. lawmakers move to block Russian diesel deal and energy investments

interfax.ru (Russian) —

U.S. Congressman Gregory Meeks introduced a bill to block a diesel deal with Russia and ban investments in Russian energy, according to a statement released Friday. The bipartisan legislation aims to cancel the diesel agreement between President Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, prohibit U.S. International Development Finance Corporation investments in Russian energy, and require sanctions on Russia's energy sector. It also revokes OFAC general licenses allowing Russian energy purchases. The bill, co-sponsored by several Democrats and one Republican, follows an October 9 presidential call and a temporary OFAC license permitting Russian diesel exports until April.
