US Congress bill targets Trump-Putin diesel deal
A bipartisan bill introduced in the US Congress aims to block a deal between President Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin to purchase and import Russian diesel fuel. The legislation seeks to ban such cooperation and mandate sanctions on Russian energy. The bill, introduced by Representative Gregory Meeks on October 16, prohibits the US International Development Finance Corporation from investing in Russian energy, revokes existing licenses from the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control, and bars future licenses. Meeks stated the deal would fund Putin's war in Ukraine and undermine US interests. Nearly 20 lawmakers from both parties have co-signed the legislation. The move follows Trump's October 16 executive order lifting sanctions under the "Graham law," citing US interests, which the bill now seeks to counteract.
