US lawmakers slam Trump's suspension of Russia sanctions
US lawmakers from both parties expressed outrage after President Donald Trump suspended sanctions against Russia days before they were set to take effect. The decision was seen as a capitulation to Russian leader Vladimir Putin. Republican Senator Tom Tillis called the move irresponsible, noting the sanctions bill passed the Senate 86-11. Democratic leader Chuck Schumer said Trump's "deal with the devil is getting dirtier," while Senator Elizabeth Warren accused the president of disregarding Congress. The sanctions had been approved with bipartisan support to aid Ukraine in its war with Russia. Lawmakers are now preparing new legislation to block Russian oil purchases, following Trump's agreements with Moscow on diesel fuel supplies.
