Rubio: India's Energy Needs Matter as US Reviews Russia Sanctions
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said India's energy needs must be considered before imposing sanctions, as he departed for a visit to Uzbekistan and India to bolster economic opportunities under the Trump Administration. Rubio's remarks came after President Trump paused 100% sanctions on Russia and countries trading in its oil, including India and China, under the Lindsey O. Graham Act. He said the 60-day window will be used to analyze the impact of tariffs on the global and US economy. Rubio will visit India on October 20, traveling to Jamnagar and Mumbai to strengthen the strategic partnership and discuss energy cooperation. He noted India is an important ally that has diversified its energy portfolio but still relies on Russian energy as it is "hard to pivot" quickly.
