Jaishankar to host US and UAE foreign ministers for separate Mumbai talks
India's External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will host U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and UAE Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan for separate bilateral meetings in Mumbai on October 20 and 19, respectively. The meetings will cover energy, trade, defence, technology, and regional issues, including West Asia conflicts. Rubio's visit follows a U.S. deadline for President Trump to decide on tariffs over Russian oil purchases by India. Jaishankar will also attend a 250th anniversary of American Independence celebration with Rubio. The MEA defended the Mumbai venue, citing past practice of hosting dignitaries in various cities. Rubio's schedule includes business events and a private visit to Jamnagar, Gujarat, hosted by the Ambani family. The UAE visit was unannounced, occurring shortly after Jaishankar's recent trip to Abu Dhabi.
