Trump Warns Sanctions Could Derail Russia-Ukraine Talks
President Donald Trump stated that Washington could tighten sanctions against Russia at any moment, but he refrained from doing so now to avoid pushing Moscow away from negotiations on settling the conflict in Ukraine. Writing on Truth Social, Trump said signing the sanctions document at this time would lead to an undesirable outcome, adding that he could sign it later if necessary. He emphasized that significant progress has been made in talks and he does not want to harm that momentum. On Saturday, Trump ordered the suspension of part of the measures outlined in the "hellish sanctions" law against Russia and Iran, including a 500% tariff on direct imports from Russia and restrictions on officials, banks, and organizations.
