Brazilian governors split on Lula's election win as Zema alleges coup
Brazilian governor Ronaldo Caiado conceded defeat to Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in the presidential election, while fellow governor Romeu Zema contested the result, alleging a "coup" and comparing the process to Venezuela. Caiado, who supported Flávio Bolsonaro in the runoff, said he bows to the majority decision and the vote count, calling it a "renewal" and a "turning of the page." Zema, however, claimed Lula applied a "Venezuela-style coup" and called the election the most "alarming and lying" he had seen in Brazil. Renan Santos of the MBL movement attributed Bolsonaro's defeat to the "arrogance" of Bolsonarism, criticizing its digital engagement strategy and attacks for alienating voters. Candidate Augusto Cury had not commented as of publication.
