China Congratulates Lula on Reelection, Pledges Stronger Brazil Ties
China congratulated Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on his reelection and expressed willingness to continue building a "community of shared future" between the two countries. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said at a press conference that China noted the results of Brazil's presidential runoff, where Lula won 51.79% of votes against Flávio Bolsonaro's 48.24%. Guo stated China is ready to work with Brazil to advance this shared future. Lula, 81, will begin his fourth term on January 5, a historic first in Brazil. He called the victory a "defeat of lies and denialism," while Bolsonaro refused to concede and announced plans to challenge the results in court. Analysts say Lula's win strengthens Brazil-China ties and BRICS cooperation.
