Brazil's PP to become fourth-largest Senate bloc in 2027
Brazil's Progressistas party (PP) will become the fourth-largest bloc in the Senate from February 2027, with six seats, according to party leader Senator Tereza Cristina. The PL party holds the largest bloc with 29 of 81 seats but needs 12 more for an absolute majority. The PL will require coalition negotiations with other parties to reach a majority. The PT is projected second with ten senators, followed by MDB with eight, PP with six, and União Brasil and Republicanos with five each. The projected Senate will include 19 women (23.5% of seats) and 13 parties. Of 54 contested seats, 40 will be filled by new senators, a 74% renewal rate. The final composition depends on a pending court ruling on Deltan Dallagnol's candidacy.
