Brazil extends voting hours in Lula-Bolsonaro runoff after bus disruptions

agi.it (Italian) —

A Brazilian Supreme Court judge extended voting hours by two hours, until 7 PM local time, during the presidential runoff between Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and Flavio Bolsonaro, as official counting had already begun. Judge Cristiano Zanin ordered the extension following a request from Lula, who cited voters being prevented from casting ballots due to bus removals in several cities, including São Paulo. Heavy rains also affected voting in some regions. US President Donald Trump declined to endorse either candidate, saying "we are watching." Bolsonaro, the far-right challenger, led the first round by two points, while Lula, 81, seeks a fourth non-consecutive term.
