French police brace for new Yellow Vests protests after weekend riots
French authorities are mobilizing after violent weekend riots, with the Yellow Vests movement planning new protests. Police are tightening security ahead of the coming weekend. Nearly 1,000 police officers were injured and 117 people arrested in Paris during the weekend's violent protests. Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu has urged local prefects to impose curfews in certain districts by Monday evening to protect businesses. Curfews for minors have already been introduced in Lille, Douai, Wattignies, and Denain, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. for the next two nights. Police have blocked roads and deployed resources to Place de la République in Paris, where clashes occurred. The Louvre has also been blocked by demonstrators. The Yellow Vests are mobilizing online for a "second act" on October 24, with the slogan "Macron must go," and 124 demonstrations are registered across Europe. Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez has promised reinforced police presence, especially during the weekend.
