France imposes localized curfews after weekend riots and looting
French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu has instructed prefects to impose "very limited" and "localized" curfews in cities to prevent further rioting and looting, following weekend violence that targeted public buildings and hundreds of businesses nationwide. Speaking after an emergency meeting, Lecornu noted no one was killed despite severe violence, and said curfew details will be provided later Monday. Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez offered his resignation, but President Emmanuel Macron refused it, instead ordering new policing tactics and full transparency on intelligence failures. At least 2,400 people were arrested during protests against rising living costs and school conditions. Nuñez acknowledged authorities "lost control" in some major cities, with hundreds of businesses looted and the Limoges City Hall nearly destroyed by fire.
