France announces partial curfews after weekend riots in cities
Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu announced partial, localized curfews for Monday evening following a weekend of chaotic scenes in several French cities. Speaking after a crisis meeting, Lecornu said the curfews aim to protect businesses, with a map to be released later. He did not rule out a state of emergency but deemed curfews more suitable. At least 3,000 affected shops will receive aid, including full partial unemployment and a support fund. The government promised a "massive penal response" and reinforced police for the upcoming weekend, as "yellow vest" protesters announced further actions. Lecornu accused the "ultra-left" of seeking to disrupt the presidential election calendar, and urged opposition leaders to attend a security meeting.
