France imposes curfews in Paris, Lille, and Nice after weekend riots
France has imposed curfews in several cities, including Paris, Lille, and Nice, following a weekend of widespread rioting and looting. The measures take effect tonight. In Paris, a curfew from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. applies to everyone in the central areas around Place de la République and Les Halles. Lille bans minors from the streets from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., with the restriction also active tomorrow and in nearby towns like Douai, Wattignies, and Denain. Nice prohibits young people from its city center between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. The curfews follow Saturday’s mass protests against government policy and rising living costs, which escalated into serious unrest with thousands arrested. Prime Minister Lecornu urged local curfews today, while Marseille already banned public gatherings and demonstrations.
