French President Emmanuel Macron promised "full transparency" on the policing strategy used during October 17 protests, stating that "those who destroyed must pay," following violent clashes linked to cost-of-living demonstrations. Speaking from the Élysée on Sunday evening, Macron addressed the unrest that saw 2,397 arrests nationwide and seven police officers seriously injured. Interior Minister Sébastien Lecornu warned the financial cost of damages "will be heavy."
