Macron rejects Interior Minister's resignation to keep security command
French President Emmanuel Macron rejected Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez's resignation request on Monday, citing the need for continuous command of security forces amid ongoing unrest. The resignation was submitted Sunday following violent incidents during protests. Macron acknowledged "failures of anticipation and intelligence" that led to violence and tasked Nuñez with implementing new tactics against vandals. Nearly 2,400 people were arrested Saturday during cost-of-living protests, with around 1,000 police officers injured. Opposition figures, particularly from the far-right, had demanded Nuñez's dismissal. Macron also promised to hold accountable those who "tried to bring down the Republic," blaming far-left radical groups and criminals for the unrest.
