France to impose curfews after riots hit Paris and other cities

unian.ua (Ukrainian) —

France will introduce a partial curfew in some areas following weekend protests that turned into riots in Paris and other cities, Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu announced. About 3,000 businesses were damaged or looted, according to Small Business Minister Serge Papen. Over half a million people protested Saturday against the high cost of living, with unrest continuing into Sunday evening, particularly in the capital. President Emmanuel Macron called the violence a national "shame" and promised a firm response. The Louvre museum closed on October 19 due to the protests, with demonstrators calling the blockade their "last hope" to reach authorities.
