France orders removal of looted goods ads after riots in Paris, Lyon, Marseille
France's digital affairs minister ordered online platforms on Monday to remove advertisements selling goods looted during weekend riots in Paris, Lyon, Marseille and other cities, following protests over the cost of living. Minister Anne Le Hénanff demanded the listings be taken down "without delay." The government summoned digital platforms after looted items appeared for sale online. At least 2,400 people were detained nationwide during the unrest, which included arson, looting of hundreds of shops and attacks on public buildings. Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez admitted authorities "lost control" in some cities. Nuñez resigned but President Emmanuel Macron rejected it, citing the need for security command during the emergency. Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu instructed mayors to impose limited, localized curfews where necessary to prevent further disturbances.
