French protests: 2,400 arrested, 1,000 police hurt
French authorities reported nearly 2,400 people were detained during Saturday's protests, with about 1,000 police officers injured, according to a new Interior Ministry tally. This significantly exceeds the provisional figures announced Saturday evening. The updated count shows 2,397 arrests and 997 injured officers, seven seriously, compared to the earlier estimate of 1,200 detentions and 150 injuries. The demonstrations, which drew around 550,000 participants, saw clashes, looting, and fires in cities including Paris, Lyon, and Marseille. Protesters included students, unions, political parties, and "yellow vest" activists from eight years ago. Sunday saw further violence in Paris, and President Emmanuel Macron announced that prefects may ban certain demonstrations in coming days to protect cities.
