France imposes local curfews after riots

stuttgarter-nachrichten.de (German) —

French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu announced locally limited curfews following severe riots and looting during protests against the cost of living. He instructed prefects to impose partial, very local restrictions starting Monday evening. The curfews aim to protect people and property, especially shops, from looting. Lecornu stated the chaos is confined to city centers and geographically uneven. He did not rule out a state of emergency but considers curfews more appropriate currently. The unrest followed weekend nationwide protests, with tensions remaining high in Paris overnight. The Yellow Vests movement has announced further demonstrations for the coming Saturday.
