Partial curfews in Paris, Nice, and Lyon target minors after weekend violence
France has implemented partial, localized curfews starting Monday evening following weekend violence, with the government ruling out a state of emergency. The targeted measures, decided by mayors or prefects, focus mainly on unaccompanied minors in the most sensitive areas. In Paris, a curfew runs from 11 p.m. Monday to 6 a.m. Tuesday in two specific zones: the central median of Place de la République and a sector around Les Halles, with exceptions for residents, workers, emergency services, and merchants. Nice has banned under-18s from circulating between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. in central areas until October 25, alongside restrictions on fireworks, fuel containers, and protective gear. Similar curfews for minors have been set in Denain, Lille, Douai, Wattignies, and Coulaines, with officials citing very young teenagers among the rioters. Interior Minister Sébastien Lecornu has asked prefects to map other sectors where such restrictions may be needed.
