Macron Condemns 'Unbridled' Violence in France Protests, Vows Firm Response
French President Emmanuel Macron condemned the "unbridled" violence during nationwide cost of living protests, stating "nothing justifies" the destruction and looting seen over the weekend. He vowed an uncompromising government response against rioters. Macron pledged to coordinate with mayors to protect cities, public buildings, and businesses, offering support to affected enterprises. He also demanded "full transparency" from security forces and asked Interior Minister Laurent Nunez to review intelligence and anticipation measures following criticism of police preparedness. Nearly 2,400 people were arrested on Saturday, with almost 1,000 police and gendarmes injured, seven seriously, according to the interior ministry. Macron distinguished between protesters with "legitimate demands" and those who "destroyed, smashed, and looted."
