Milan police clash with youths for second day as riots spread to Bologna and Turin
Violent clashes between youths and police continued for a second day in Milan, with rioters looting shops and setting vehicles on fire near the central cathedral square. Police deployed tear gas and water cannons to disperse the groups. The unrest began Saturday on the sidelines of protests against high living costs, with around 70 arrests made in Milan since then. Similar disturbances also occurred in Bologna and Turin, and Mayor Giuseppe Sala reported smashed windows and frightened residents. Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni scheduled a Monday security meeting, condemning perpetrators who exploit demonstrations to spread chaos. She affirmed the right to protest but stated that devastating cities is not a right.
