Why Russian jet drones now reach Ukraine's western regions
Ukrainian Air Force communications chief Yuriy Ihnat explained that Russian jet drones now reach western regions because Moscow reduces their warheads to add fuel, extending range. This allows strikes on Rivne, Volyn, Khmelnytskyi, and Lviv oblasts, including for reconnaissance missions. Ihnat noted jet drones are tactically closer to cruise missiles, which already reach Lviv. Removing or minimizing the warhead permits more fuel, increasing distance. He also mentioned new drone-missiles like S-8000 and "Dan-T," launched from aircraft, with ranges up to 600 kilometers. Regarding air defense, Ihnat said shooting down all drones is impossible due to round-the-clock attacks, limited missile resources, and weather conditions requiring visual target acquisition. During some attacks, interception rates reach 85 percent, which he called a very high figure.
