Protesters storm town halls in Marseille and Lille amid French cost-of-living rallies
Another town hall has been stormed in France as nationwide demonstrations occur. Protesters entered town halls in both Marseille and Lille, according to local media. Unions, farmers, teachers, firefighters, students, and rioters united on Saturday against rising living costs. Roads were blocked, trash bins set on fire, and unauthorized protests held nationwide. In Marseille, a police station was attacked, and protesters broke into the town hall, attempting to barricade themselves. Masked protesters set fire to a tourist office in Lyon, and later stormed Lille's town hall. Paris police reported 100 arrests and over 500 checks by noon. A planned, police-approved march departed from Place de la République at 2 p.m. Police reportedly used tear gas against demonstrators.
