French protests over living costs and education grievances spread nationwide
Protesters across France rallied Saturday against rising living costs, joining ongoing high school student demonstrations over education conditions after more than three weeks of school blockades. The protests follow social media calls to revive the yellow vest movement, with the CGT labour union backing demands for higher wages, lower prices, and protected public services. President Emmanuel Macron appealed for calm and respect for people and property. Interior Minister Laurent Nunez expected hundreds of actions and over 80 marches nationwide, with some Paris gatherings banned and Metro stations closed. Recent student unrest has caused thousands of arrests, injuries, and school fires, drawing international attention.
