French Police Turn Back Undeclared March Toward Elysée Palace
Undeclared protesters marching toward the Elysée Palace in Paris were turned back by police on Saturday, according to the Paris police prefecture. The group was stopped at the corner of Rue Boissy-d'Anglas and Avenue Gabriel. Separately, a union official reported that police attacked the head of a declared march in Toulouse, injuring four senior female union leaders who required evacuation. The official blamed the prefect and Prime Minister for the orders, citing the use of stun grenades. Nationwide, around 1,500 actions are planned with an estimated 150,000 protesters expected outside Paris and 40,000 in the capital. President Emmanuel Macron appealed for calm on Friday, emphasizing that the right to protest must be exercised with respect.
