French protests over cost of living spread to Brussels and Liège
Dozens of arrests occurred Saturday in Paris as protests against the high cost of living, called by former "yellow vests" and youth groups, escalated across France, with hundreds of young people also rallying in Brussels and Liège, Belgium. In Paris, police conducted checks and dispersed crowds, while the CNews headquarters was targeted by hooded individuals who threw projectiles and broke windows, leading to 21 arrests. In Marseille, hundreds blocked traffic and lit fires, while authorities in Lyon dispersed groups near a bridge and a refinery. Authorities anticipate up to 150,000 protesters nationwide and have authorized the use of stun grenades in cases of extreme violence. President Emmanuel Macron appealed for calm, urging respect for people and property during the demonstrations.
