Milan police clash with protesters in violent rally; injuries and arrests reported
Violent clashes erupted in Milan during an "Italia in Piazza" protest, with police charging demonstrators after stones and firecrackers were thrown. Injuries and detentions were reported as tensions spread across the city center. The protest, against rising costs and poor public services, began at Piazza del Duomo before turning violent in Via Broletto. Masked demonstrators later threw barriers and a fire extinguisher at police in Piazza Duomo, while officers conducted further charges in the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. Several young people were stopped and identified. Similar clashes occurred in Bologna, where police used water cannons and tear gas, leading to at least seven detentions. In Milan, some youths waved Albanian flags, reportedly referencing ongoing unrest in Tirana. Damage included broken windows, overturned tables, and damaged ATM shelters.
