CDS-PP deputy calls Porto housing protesters a violent minority
During a parliamentary debate on the cost of living, CDS-PP deputy Paulo Núncio criticized protesters in Porto as a violent minority, accusing the PCP of failing to condemn their illegal occupation of Praça D. João I. Núncio claimed the PCP did not denounce alleged provocations and attacks on security forces by "radical and violent extremists." Minister Carlos Abreu Amorim stated the housing crisis requires serious public policies, not disorder, and that the government will not yield to street protests. Amorim blamed previous socialist governments for housing difficulties, citing 17 homes per 1,000 inhabitants in 2018 versus 43 in the EU. The debate preceded a CGTP protest day demanding housing rights and wage increases.
