French police face probe over 'war-like injuries' to teens in protests
French police are investigating 36 complaints of violence against protesters, including allegations that officers caused "war-like injuries" to teenagers during student demonstrations. The cases involve claims of mutilation, serious injuries, and racist or sexist abuse. Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez announced internal probes and the suspension of stun grenades. Specific cases include a 15-year-old who lost a hand, a 14-year-old with jaw fractures, and a 16-year-old who lost vision in one eye. Lawyers dispute official accounts of these incidents. Since mid-September, 6,773 minors have been detained, with lawyers alleging baseless arrests and harsh treatment. Rights groups compare the situation to the 2018-2019 "yellow vests" protests, which also saw accusations of excessive police force.
