Limoges city hall severely damaged by fire during protest

lesoir.be (French) —

The 19th-century city hall of Limoges, France, was severely damaged by fire set by radical individuals during a protest on Saturday, with officials calling it a "heritage catastrophe" though no injuries were reported. The roof collapsed onto lower floors, two-thirds of the facade was destroyed, and the belfry fell, according to the prefect and mayor. Around 5,000 people attended the protest, including several hundred described as "radicalized and extremely violent." The fire was set after rioters broke into the building, which housed staff and officials who escaped unharmed. Police vehicles were burned, and nearby shops were looted during the unrest.
