Limoges Town Hall largely destroyed in far-left riot fire
Limoges Town Hall, a historic French landmark built in 1883, was largely destroyed after far-left rioters set it ablaze during ongoing cost of living protests. The building's roof collapsed, and two-thirds of its exterior was lost. Local prefect Maurice Barate called the fire a deliberate act by hooligans and a catastrophe for heritage. The destruction occurred as violent clashes entered their fourth week, with around 400 arrests and over half a million people participating in more than 100 marches on Saturday. Outgoing President Emmanuel Macron condemned the violence, vowing prosecution for those who attacked institutions. Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez blamed the unrest on radical far-left groups, while masked groups also attempted to breach city halls in Lille and Calais.
