81-year-old Lisbon tenant faces eviction after 60 years in the city
An 81-year-old Lisbon tenant, Maria Teresa Faleiro, joined a CGTP protest against the cost of living, holding a sign stating she is being evicted. She faces a court-ordered eviction on November 6th after her landlords refused to renew her contract. Faleiro has lived in Lisbon for 60 years, paying €724.11 monthly rent in the same Arroios home for 22 years. She claims she always paid rent but lost a court case initiated by the owners five years ago, leaving her without housing alternatives. The protest in Lisbon, Porto, and Coimbra demanded higher wages, pensions, and public services, with housing a central issue. Demonstrators also referenced a recent police crackdown on a Porto housing protest, while CGTP leader Tiago Oliveira called for a 15% general wage increase.
