France Protests: 1,200 Arrested, 150 Police Injured
French Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu announced Sunday that 1,200 people were arrested and 150 police officers injured during nationwide protests on Saturday. He called it a "miracle" the toll was not higher. Over 800,000 people joined demonstrations against the rising cost of living, according to organizers, with 550,000 participants nationwide including 110,000 in Paris. Police used tear gas and water cannons to disperse crowds, with 133 arrests in Paris alone by noon. Protesters included "Yellow Vest" activists, students, and climate advocates. In Marseille, demonstrators briefly stormed a city hall building, while in Lyon, a tourism office was set on fire. The government blamed "far-left" elements for the violence.
