Paris Protests Turn Violent as Swedish Witness Describes Chaos
Violent protests are shaking Paris, with police using tear gas and cars set ablaze. Swedish national Emmeli, 24, witnesses the chaos, calling it "completely crazy." The nationwide protests began over widespread discontent with France's education system, but now multiple groups have joined, demanding lower living costs. Between 30,000 and 60,000 are expected to participate in Paris on Saturday. Emmeli Salomonsson, working near Place de la République, reports riots for two hours, with black smoke blocking visibility. Clashes have occurred, with police using tear gas, rubber bullets, and water cannons, while protesters threw stones and set kiosks and cars on fire. 272 people have been arrested across France, according to Sky News. Meanwhile, peaceful demonstrations also occurred, with 10,000 gathering in Rennes and 15,000 in Brest. Salomonsson notes police have closed several streets, and protesters blocked roads with bicycles, describing an aggressive atmosphere with participants of all ages.
