CGTP expects large protest in Lisbon, Porto, and Coimbra against rising living costs

noticiasaominuto.com (Portuguese) —

Portugal's largest union, CGTP, expects a "large national demonstration" on Saturday in Lisbon, Porto, and Coimbra against the rising cost of living, according to its secretary-general, Tiago Oliveira. The decentralized protest, under the slogan "More salary, better pensions and public services/Against the rise in cost of living/New direction for Portugal!", will gather workers, retirees, and youth. Rallies begin at 10:30 in Porto and Coimbra, and at 14:30 in Lisbon, with strike notices issued to enable participation across sectors. Oliveira warned political parties, particularly regarding the 2027 state budget vote, that they will be held responsible for current policies. He criticized the PS for announcing its voting intention early, stating millions are suffering from high housing, fuel, and food costs while parties "sit on the fence."
