French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu announced Saturday 1,200 arrests and 150 police and gendarmes injured following violent episodes in several French cities during a day of protests. He called it a "miracle" the toll was not more serious. Justice Minister Gérald Darmanin instructed prosecutors to seek preventive detention for those attacking authorities or public buildings, citing "unprecedented" urban violence. Interior Minister Laurent Núñez praised security forces' response, noting most detainees were adults. According to TF1/LCI, 270 commercial establishments were looted nationwide, and several official buildings were attacked, including Limoges' city hall, which was completely destroyed by fire. Lecornu also challenged the radical left party France Unbowed to "choose a side."
