The tower of Limoges' city hall collapsed after rioters set the 1883 building ablaze during nationwide protests in France, leaving it largely destroyed. The fire raged into the evening, also destroying the roof. Masked individuals broke in through a window and torched the historic monument. Mayor Guérin vowed arrests, saying "everything is on camera." Earlier, police cars were burned and shops looted in the city. Most demonstrations were peaceful, but violence erupted in Paris, Marseille, and other cities. With 550,000 protesters nationwide, over 1,200 people were arrested and 150 officers injured. The prime minister said the government won't be intimidated.
