Porto housing activists applauded by thousands at CGTP march
Thousands of people, including around 100 young housing activists, participated in a CGTP-organized march in Porto, where the activists were applauded upon arrival at Praça D. João I. The demonstration, under the slogan "More salary, better pensions and public services - Against the rising cost of living - New direction for Portugal," filled Santa Catarina Street. The housing activists, carrying signs and a tent, entered the square during scheduled speeches, receiving applause from the crowd. The square proved too small for the turnout, with attendees spilling onto adjacent sidewalks. The activists' arrival followed a police intervention early Thursday that injured 39 people, prompting a peaceful protest of about 3,000 people that evening.
