Violent protests erupt across Europe over education and living costs
Protests across several European countries turned violent over the weekend, with clashes reported in France, Albania, Spain, Italy, Portugal, and Belgium. In France, over 1,300 people were arrested and 53 police officers injured amid demonstrations involving roughly 410,000 participants. French authorities attributed the violence to the "radical far-left," while also arresting 11 members of a far-right group in Nice. In Albania, protesters set the Environment Ministry on fire in Tirana, and in Barcelona, around 100 people were detained, including minors, after shops were looted and vehicles damaged. Smaller protests occurred in Belgium with nine arrests, while Italy saw 317 arrests and nine arrest warrants issued. In Rome, demonstrators briefly entered the Colosseum, and in Portugal, 25 people were arrested during housing-rights protests in Lisbon.
