Bologna clashes: 2,000 protesters fight police, 17 injured in violent march
Violent clashes erupted in Bologna on Saturday as around 2,000 masked protesters fought police for four hours, leaving 17 injured and several detained. A young protester was hospitalized after falling ill during the unrest. The unauthorized march, organized by the Movimento 17 Ottobre, began at Piazza del Nettuno before turning violent near Via Riva Reno and Via Marconi. Protesters threw bottles, stones, and firecrackers at officers, who responded with tear gas and water cannons, while shops were damaged and barricades erected. The violence mirrors similar clashes in Bologna in November 2025, and damages are still being assessed. The injured include a carabiniere in moderate condition, with authorities expecting the number of arrests to rise.
