Barcelona protests turn violent; 128 arrested after riots

pravda.com.ua (Ukrainian) —

Riots erupted in central Barcelona on Saturday evening during protests, with demonstrators throwing stones at police, building barricades, setting fire to bins, and smashing shop windows. Authorities reported 128 arrests, about a quarter of them minors, and 15 police officers injured. The protest, organized on social media under the slogan "Instituts Indignats," aimed to bring France's youth movement to Catalonia's capital, peaking at around 600 people. Around 14 shops were looted, and motorcycles, bicycles, and bus stops were damaged. Barcelona's mayor condemned the incidents, while the Catalan interior minister called them "unjustified violence and vandalism."
